September 2015: My recent photo-painting of Cagney, the rooster. I used several programs to create this look and also a virtual drawing pad for painterly brush strokes. Simple but not easy!

Today’s painter project is a before and after example of a photo I took of Sid, a white Arabian horse, and his owner Claire. I created a more dramatic look by rendering the original photo into an oil painting and to soften the bold shapes and colors. As you can see in the original image, his mane was only in partial view and Claire’s hair was in need of a dramatic, wind-swept effect.  The finished “artistic photo portrait” took me roughly four days, roughly 20 hours, of working on it.
